FHSU English honor society honors

Printer-friendly version

Fort Hays State University's chapter of the International English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta, recently inducted five new members, honored graduating students and elected new officers at an annual ceremony.

New members are Traci Bamber, Hill City sophomore; Genesis Ferch, La Crosse graduate student; Meredith Musil, La Crosse senior; Jennifer Waldron, Dodge City senior; and Dominique Weismiller, Kansas City junior.

After the induction of new members, seven graduating Sigma Tau Delta members were presented with honor cords: Morgan Chalfant, Hill City graduate student; Denise Dolechek, Hoisington; Jessie Maseberg Irvin, Macksville; Topher Rome, Ellinwood graduate student; Kayci Strickland, Hoisington; Drew Thomas, Hays; and Jennifer Waldron, Ulysses.

The chapter members also elected new officers to serve as the executive committee for the upcoming year: president, Katie Edwards, Hays senior; vice-president, Alexandra Walston, Wichita senior; treasurer, Rome, secretary, Weismiller; and historian, Musil.

The ceremony was conducted by last year's Sigma Tau Delta Executive Committee and included Chalfant, Rome, Theresa Kraisinger, Bison graduate student, Edwards and Walston.

The faculty co-advisors for Sigma Tau Delta are Amy Cummins, assistant professor of English, and Pam Shaffer, professor of English. "Rho Psi," the designation of FHSU's chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, was founded by FHSU students and faculty in 1989.

The requirements for membership are an overall GPA of at least 3.0, a GPA in English courses of at least 3.2 and completion of at least three courses in English beyond the composition sequence. The Greek letters of the English Honor Society's name stand for sincerity, truth and design.
