Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Steinert

Marvin S. Steinert and Dora Lee Mai were united in marriage on Sept. 5, 1948 at St. John Lutheran Church in Russell.

Mr. and Mrs. Steinert were at home in Russell until 1955, at which time Marvin accepted the manager's position at Norton Lumber Co. in Norton. Dora Lee worked as bookeeper at the lumber company. In 1962, the couple accepted an offer to invest in and manage Norton Savings and Loan along with Norton County Abstract. Marvin and Dorie would remain in Norton for 22 years, raising their three children. Marvin served on the Norton City Council from 1962 to 1967 and was mayor of Norton from 1967 to 1971. In 1976, The couple sold the savings and loan and abstract company, and in 1977, Marvin was appointed Kansas state savings and loan commissioner by Gov. Robert Bennett, resulting in a move to Topeka. Marvin retired in 1987 from that position. In 2005, the couple moved to Hays, where they presently reside.

Marvin and Dorie were blessed with three loving children: Terry and Nancy, Erie, Jim and Shirl, Hays, Mary and son-in-law of 35 years James Ward, of Warrensburg, Mo. The couple also parented a fourth child, Barbara. She was lost at birth.

The couple are the proud grandparents of nine grandchildren: Cindy, Bobby, Amy, Marcie, Terri, Lynn, Jamie and Tim. Their grandchild Mikey is the family's guardian angel.

Marvin and Dorie have five great-grandchildren: Kevin, Robbie, Alex, Kaden and Bailey. There are three more on the way.

Mr. and Mrs. Steinert will celebrate their anniversary with their children and family at the Argosy Hotel in Kansas City.
