CHAPMAN — The Hays High School volleyball team opened its season with a 2-1 record in triangular action Tuesday.

The Indians picked up wins against Riley County and Alma-Wabaunsee, then fell to Chapman to start the year.

In a 25-27, 25-21, 25-23 victory against Riley County, Hays High got 15 kills from Tasiah Nunnery and 24 digs from Kallie Leiker to go along with four blocks for Jaycee Dale and 15 assists from Hannah McGuire.

The Indians defeated Alma, 25-13, 25-15, getting nine kills from Nunnery, nine assists from McGuire and 13 digs from Leiker.

In the loss to Chapman (25-19, 21-25, 20-25), Nunnery and Savannah Schneider each recorded nine kills to lead the way. Leiker collected 34 digs and McGuire led the way with eight assists.

The Indians are off until Sept. 7 when they travel to Dodge City for quadrangular action.
