TOPEKA — The Fort Hays State University women’s soccer team earned a 6-0 shutout Thursday to open the season against Southwest Minnesota State.
The Tigers earned their fourth straight season-opening victory against SMSU.
FHSU scored less than 10 minutes into the match with Catalina Hernandez scoring in the sixth minute. Eden Stoddard then put FHSU up at the 21:58 mark. Darby Hirsch then made it 3-0 before halftime with an assist from Savannah McClease.
FHSU rolled in the second half getting goals from Silvana Romero on the assist from Stoddard, Stoddard on an assist from Alexa Franks and Franks on the assist from Olympia Katsouridis.
FHSU recorded 15 shots with 10 on goal. SMSU had four shots. Kristen Thompson grabbed the win for FHSU with one save.
The Tigers will face Upper Iowa at 2 p.m. Saturday in Topeka.
