The No. 11 Fort Hays State University men’s soccer team played to a draw in its season opener Thursday night, going through two overtimes at the FHSU soccer stadium with No. 3 ranked Rockhurst in a rematch of last season’s NCAA Division II national quarterfinals.

The teams combined to take nine shots in the first half with the Tigers collecting six shots and four corner kicks.

Rochurst controlled possession most of the second half, however, outshooting the Tigers 5-1, and had a chance to take the lead before a save by Michael Yantz with four minutes left.

Neither team attempted a shot in the first overtime, then combined for five shots in double OT, but Yantz again made a big save in the final minute to secure the draw. He finished with four saves with his 10th career clean sheet.

FHSU is in action again Saturday when it travels to Lebanon, Ill., to face McKendree University. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
