Following the Fort Hays State University’s football team’s 35-6 win against University of Central Missouri in last week’s home opener, Tiger senior defensive end Nathan Shepherd has been named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Shepherd, a native of Ajax, Ontario, had seven tackles, three for loss, and a sack that forced a fumble in the Tigers’ victory.

Shepherd was part of a defense that recorded eight tackles for loss and limited UCM to 31 rushing yards. Shepherd forced the fumble at a key point when UCM was threatening to score in the first half. It thwarted a drive that eventually ended up in a turnover on downs.
