WAMEGO — The Thomas More Prep-Marian girls’ cross country team took second behind Norton on Saturday in the Wamego Invitational at Wamego Country Club.

The Monarchs scored 85 points in the Class 3-2-1A division, while Norton scored 70 to lead the pack.

The Monarchs were paced by junior Emily Schippers, who finished eight in 22 minutes, 21.60 seconds. Junior Julia Werth was TMP’s next best finish at 18th in 23:00.20.

Seniors Cheyenne Rhoades and Taylor Teel ran 31st and 32nd, respectively, in 24:16.30 and 24:19.60.

Emily Schulte (24:39.60) and Kiara Urban (25:04.10) rounded out TMP’s run.

Norton was paced by a third-place finish in the division for Lexi Kats. The sophomore ran 21:12.90, while freshman teammate Hannah Bailey was seventh at 22:05.40.

The Trego Community sister duo of junior Helen and sophomore Sybil Giefer were second and fifth, respectively, finishing in 20:46.90 and 21:46.50.

On the boys’ side in 3-2-1A, Norton’s Connor Hall took 11th place in 18:41.90, the highest finish among area runners.

TMP-Marian’s Jared Mayers paced the Monarchs, finishing in 32nd place at 19:39.60.

The Norton boys won the team title with 97 points.
