Crews with G&G Dozer were momentarily stopped Tuesday after one of the company’s excavators collapsed into the basement during the demolition of Wiest Hall on the Fort Hays State University campus.

Gary Gorby, owner of G&G, was driving when a portion of the floor collapsed beneath it, and the machine fell into the basement.

Gorby was noticeably shaken, but unharmed, he said, after crews were able to re-position the equipment and drive it out. Shortly after, the crew restarted the process.

Gorby said it wasn’t the first time it’s happened to him, but smiled as he said he sure hopes it is the last.
