JOPLIN, Mo. — The Fort Hays State University men’s cross country team finished ninth Saturday morning in the Southern Stamped, hosted by Missouri Southern State University.
The Tigers finished with 239 points at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course. The meet featured 267 runners and was an 8K.
Layton Werth was the top finisher for FHSU, covering the course in 25 minutes, 34.46 seconds to finish 27th overall. Robbie Schmidt was the next best at 49th overall in 26:02.09.
Brett Meyer came in at 61st, recording a time of 26:16.43. Rounding out the TIgers’ day was Reed Rome (26:29.24) and Peter Franklin (26:37.34).
Wichita State University took the team title with 37 points. Rogers State was the top Division II team, finishing second with 120 points.
On the women’s side, the Tigers finished in 11th place. FHSU picked up 289 points, finishing seventh among Division II teams.
Chelsea Jackson paced the Tigers with an 18:09.80 on the 5K course. She finished 30th.
Lindsay Roberts came in close behind at 36th in 18:14.71, and Lauren Roberts was 58th in 18:38.06.
Rounding out the Tigers’ race were Yessenia Gonzales (18:52.06) and Shea Bonine (19:16.94).
Tulsa took top team honors with a 39, while Dallas Baptist was the top Division II team, finishing second.
