McPHERSON — The Hays High School girls’ cross country team came away with two medalists Thursday in a hot, windy McPherson Invitational on Thursday.

Yesenia Maldonado covered the 5K in 23 minutes, 33 seconds to claim fourth place, while Tana Herreman ran 23:53 to finish in sixth to lead the pack for the Indians.

Hays High finished third out of five teams with 76 points. Buhler won the invitational with a 41.

Also competing for the Indians’ varsity, Claire Shippy ran 16th in 24:58 with Madison Schmidt 22nd at 25:36 and Maddie Lohmeyer 28th in 26:55. Ashley Boland ran 29th in 27:22.

The Indian boys had one medalist in Dawson VonFeldt. He ran 19:26 to finish in eighth place in the 5K.

Hays High was sixth of seven teams with 131 points. Hutchinson won the title with 41.

Also on varsity were Justice Dotts (17th, 20:02), Grant Brungardt (31st, 21:01), Mark Schuckman (37th, 21:57), Conner Cunningham (38th, 22:14) and Trystin Johnson (39th, 22:15).
