NORTON — In a matchup of ranked teams, the Thomas More Prep-Marian volleyball team handed Plainville its first loss of the season Tuesday, taking the Cardinals in three sets.

The Monarchs, ranked by the KVA No. 4 in Class 3A, won the first 25-16, before the Cardinals — No. 3 in 2A — took the second with a 25-14 victory.

Then TMP won the deciding set, 25-11, to roll its record to 25-1. To start the day, TMP delivered a 25-7, 25-8 victory against Norton.

Kayla Vitztum had 34 kills to lead the Monarchs, while Savannah Yost recorded 15 digs. The Monarchs are off until Oct. 7 when they travel to Scott City for tournament action.
