CHENEY — The Thomas More Prep-Marian girls’ golf team is headed to the 3-2-1A state tournament, and the Monarchs will host it at Smoky Hill Country Club.
Junior Shannen Chin led the way, taking home the individual regional championship Monday at Cherry Oaks Golf Course. Chin shot a 5-over 77 to take top honors by 12 strokes.
TMP finished third as a team at 409, just five shots out of first place. Hoisington won the event with a 404 and Cheney was second with a 405.
The Monarchs’ Jenna Romme, a sophomore, fired a 106 as the next-best golfer for TMP. Junior Avin Inlow (111) and sophomore Haleigh Spray (115) rounded out the team score. Sophomore Abigail Heimerman (117) also competed.
The Monarchs finished second as a team a year ago in 3-2-1A with Chin finishing sixth. Romme also competed on that team.
Smoky Hill Country Club is the site of the 3-2-1A state finale, which tees off Oct. 16 at 9 a.m.
