Fort Hays State University fans will have their first chance Wednesday to see the FHSU men’s basketball team at home.

Fresh off a 1-1 start to the season that included a win over the No. 15 ranked team in the country, as well as an overtime loss, the Tigers will take the floor at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Gross Memorial Coliseum against Central Christian College.

The Tigers, under 17th-year head coach Mark Johnson, started the season with an 85-66 win against No. 15 ranked Southwest Minnesota State University, led by 15 points from Payton Stephens. Then, the Tigers forced overtime in an eventual 96-92 loss to Sioux Falls. Both games were played during the weekend at Emporia State University. Hays High School product Brady Werth dumped in 30 points to lead the way for FHSU in the loss.

Werth is leading FHSU with a 21 point average through two contests, while four Tigers are in double figures.

Wednesday’s game is one of two this week as the Tigers will travel to Golden, Colo., on Friday to face Colorado School of Mines, a former foe from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, also a top 10 preseason team.
