The top seed will host each game.

Hesston women

HESSTON — The Hesston College women’s basketball team downed the Bethany College junior varsity 82-62 Thursday night at Yost Center in Hesston.

Hesston led 19-9 after the first quarter and 42-22 at the half. The Larks led by 27 after three quarters, but the Swedes got back to within 20 at the end of the game.

Carissa Slabach led Hesston with 17 points off the bench. Essence Tolson scored 13 points with 13 rebounds.

Chandler Peoples led Bethany with 11 points. Kenna Sullivan scored 10 points off the bench.

Tuesday, Hesston fell to the Rhema Bible College junior varsity 69-68 in Broken Bow, Okla. Scoring details were not reported.

Hesston is 4-6 and plays at 5:30 p.m. today at Cottey College in Nevada, Mo.

HC men run

HESSTON — The Hesston College men’s basketball team ran its winning streak to four in a row after a pair of wins.

Tuesday in Broken Bow, Okla., Hesston downed the Rhema Bible College junior varsity 116-93, the fifth time this season the Larks broke the century mark on offense.

Thursday at home, Hesston topped Louisiana Christian 82-71.

Against Rhema, Coye Campbell scored 23 points, followed by Cal Hartley with 19, Aubrey Johnson with 18 and Shannon Cordes with 12.

“I thought our guys did a great job of being the more focused team for 40 minutes,” Galyon said. “… It was all about defense and rebounding. Our depth was a big difference in the outcome of the game.”

Against Louisiana Christian, Hesston jumped out to a 49-31 lead at the half and held off a comeback by the Disciples in the second half.

Johnson led Hesston with 17 points, followed by Neely with 13 and Hartley with 10. Grant Harding has 10 rebounds.

Louisiana Christian, 8-8, was led by Ignatius Patt with 17 points, followed by Mark Edmond with 14 and Travis Zeno.

Hesston is 9-3 and hosts the Sterling College junior varsity at 8 p.m. Monday.
