There were 12 matches wrestled Thursday in the Hays High School wrestling team’s home Western Athletic Conference dual against Liberal.

The Indians took seven of them to capture a 49-26 victory against the Redskins, along with a pair of forfeits in the light weights.

Of the seven wins for the Indians, five came via pin, starting with three straight pins at 120, 126 and 132 pounds. Corey Hale picked up a pin in 1 minute, 22 seconds at 120, and Cesar Macias took the same amount of time to grab a pin at 126.

Then at 132, Creighton Newell needed just 43 seconds to get Hays High another victory.

Taron Burkhart (160) also picked up a pin in 42 seconds and Trey VanPelt earned the pin in 1:56 at 220 pounds.

Hays High’s other two wins came at 138 pounds as Colton Vajnar picked up a 7-0 decision, and at 170 where Kreighton Meyers grabbed an 8-0 win.

Jordan Zimmerman (106) and Grant Karlin (113) grabbed forfeit victories.

Kyle Casper (145), Landon Summers (152), Chase Voth (182), Colter Conger (195) and Logan Schulte (285) suffered losses to Liberal.

Hays High is competing Saturday in the Topeka Seaman Invitational.
