WaKEENEY — The Thomas More Prep-Marian girls’ basketball team got 29 points from Kayla Vitztum, leading the Monarchs to a 59-32 victory Tuesday night in MCL action against Trego Community High School.

Vitztum had 23 of the Monarchs’ 33 points as the Monarchs led by 10 at halftime, then pulled away a little bit further to move their record to 8-1 and 4-0 in MCL play as the No. 6 ranked team in the latest KBCA rankings.

TMP had a 7-0 run in the second quarter to lead by 11, but Trego’s Gracie Pfannenstiel kept Trego (6-2, 1-1) close with nine first-half points.

It was the eighth win in a row for TMP, which plays host to Smith Center on Friday.

Vitztum was the only Monarch in double digits. Jillian Lowe recorded nine points for the Monarchs, who outscored the Golden Eagles 15-5 in the third quarter and 11-4 in the fourth. Pfannenstiel, after having nine in the first half, was scoreless in the second, and led Trego with nine.
