SALINA — Hays High School’s Kreighton Meyers was the top finishing wrestler for the school at the Class 4A state tournament Friday and Saturday in Salina.
Meyers went 2-2 and lost in the third round of the consolation bracket to Eudora’s Elijah Kennedy by pinfall.
A victory in that match would have put Meyers in contention for at least a sixth-place medal in the 160-pound class.
Meyers opened the tourney by falling 10-0 to Burlington’s Brett Bober on Friday. But he bounced back to grab a 6-1 decision and a 4-3 decision in the first and second round of the consolation bracket.
Logan Schulte was the only HHS wrestler to win a first-round match. The 285-pounder pinned Arkansas City’s Terrell Morris in 4:19 to make the quartefinals.
But Schulte lost 1-0 to Wamego’s Tylar Patrick to fall into the consolation bracket. A pin to Evan Dean of Santa Fe Trail ended his tourney.
Jordan Zimmerman went 0-2 at 106. Zimmerman lost in the first round 14-3 to Bonner Springs’ Cruz Lara, then dropped out of the tourney after a 10-6 loss to Thad Hendrix of Louisburg.
