GREAT BEND — In their last weekend of regular season play for the 2018 season, the Lindenwood Lions tripped up the Fort Hays State University tennis team Saturday in Great Bend, 6-3. With the loss, Fort Hays State falls to 6-9 while claiming a 1-7 mark in MIAA play. The Lions improved to 4-10 on the year with a 3-5 record in conference play.
Doubles play went to the Lions as Fort Hays State dropped two-of-three contests. Macy Moyers and Ellea Ediger captured the lone win in doubles for the Tigers as they took down Haya Hamed and her partner Savannah Martin in an 8-4 victory. However, an 8-1 los by Lauren Lindell and Natalie Lubbers to Tereza Melicharkova and Anna Barbasheva, followed by an 8-4 tilt by Laura Jimenez-Lendinez and Nicole Lubbers to Laura Castro-Milan and Dana Minakova helped the Lions take doubles play.
Fort Hays State captured two singles matches, with one coming by retirement due to injury. Lindell claimed a victory over Melicharkova who bowed out to injury, while Nicole Lubbers took the 6-4, 7-5 win in the No. 6 spot over Castro-Milan. The two singles victories would not be enough as the Lions claimed the remaining four contests to secure their MIAA win.
The Tigers will compete in their final regular season match Sunday at their home court in Hays. First serve is set for 12 p.m.against Southwest Baptist.
