Monarch golfers fifth in 3A state finale

CHENEY -- The Thomas More Prep-Marian boys' golf team took fifth place at the Class 3A state golf tournament on Tuesday at Cherry Oaks Golf Course in Cheney. The Monarchs finished with 344 strokes, while Wichita Collegiate won the team's 18th state title with 302. Hesston (317), Sabetha (323), and Phillipsburg (340) finished second through fourth.
TMP junior Max Megaffin was the lone medalist (top 20) for the Monarchs, shooting 82 (42-40) to finish in a tie for 20th. Collegiate's Ian Trebilcock was the individual champion, edging Hesston's Titus Ewert in a playoff after each shot 71.
Phillipsburg's lone medalist was senior Michael Dusin, who shot 77 to finish tied for sixth.
Sophomore Hayden Rohr was second for the Monarchs with his 83, followed by junior Lane Fisher's 87 and junior Dan O'Connor's 92. Keynan Hysten's 111 and Joe Heimann's 120 rounded out the team scoring for TMP.
After Dusin, Phillipsburg got an 83 from Keaton Orr and a 90 from Luke Jacobs and Riley Juennemann. Jaron Kellerman shot 91 while Tanner Crist rounded out the scoring with 101.
