Area golf -- Tebo repeats as regional champion, Trego wins

ATWOOD -- Ellis High School senior Skyler Tebo is a four-time regional champion. Tebo fired a 72 Monday in Atwood to claim the Class 2A regional championship.

WaKeeney-Trego Community, the defending Class 1A champion from last season, won the regional Monday with a 327, led by a second-place finish for Blake Huxman, one shot back of Tebo.

Dion Reetz (80), Luke Reeder (86), and Emmitt Owens (88) rounded out the scoring list for the Golden Eagles.

Oberlin-Decatur Community, led by a third-place 74 for Kelly Brown, took second as a team with a 341. Plainville, led by Colten Bobek's 82, took the third qualifying spot for next week's Class 2A state tournament at Fort Hays Municipal Golf Course in Hays. Plainville finished with a 351.

Also qualifying individually from the area: Rawlins County's Neil Portschy (8th, 84), Ness City's Darby Schwartzkopf (9th, 85), Rawlins County's Hunter Leibbrandt (10th, 86).

Class 4A at Goodland

Led by a 70 for Gage Ihrig, the Goodland High School boys' golf team won its Class 4A golf regional Monday at Sugar Hills Golf Course.

Goodland shot 320 as a team, 27 shots ahead of runner-up Larned. Both teams qualified for the May 27 Class 4A state tournament at the Firekeeper Golf Course at Mayetta.

Sand Greens at La Crosse

In La Crosse, Cheylin took the team title with a 344. La Crosse also qualified for state as a team in second place with a 353.

Eddie Frisbie paced Cheylin with an 83, while Shane Miller paced the Leopards with an 81. Taylor Yohe (84), Jacob Reifschneider (99) and Chase Klozenbucher (89) rounded out the scoring for the Leopards. Sand Greens state is at the Leonardville Golf Course.
