Eagles advance to state title game

PITTSBURG -- Behind a complete game from Cole Schumacher, the Hays Eagles Legion baseball team advanced to the Class AAA state championship game for a third straight season with a 9-4 win against Pittsburg.

Schumacher gave up four runs (three earned) on 11 hits, but struck out seven with just two walks in the effort.

PITTSBURG -- Behind a complete game from Cole Schumacher, the Hays Eagles Legion baseball team advanced to the Class AAA state championship game for a third straight season with a 9-4 win against Pittsburg.

Schumacher gave up four runs (three earned) on 11 hits, but struck out seven with just two walks in the effort.

Connor Rule finished 2 for 4 with a double and drove in two runs, while Zack Legleiter was 3 for 5 and drove in three runs.

Schumacher moved to 8-0 with a 2.29 earned-run average. The Eagles (33-8) await the winner between Saturday's noon game. The title game is at 3 p.m. Saturday. A second title game is scheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday, should Hays lose the 3 p.m. game. A win Saturday and Hays advances to the National Region 4 tournament Aug. 7 to 10 in North Little Rock, Ark.
