FHSU baseball drops series finale with Pitt State

The Fort Hays State University baseball team dropped its series finale against Pittsburg State on Sunday, losing 7-3 at Larks Park. FHSU (3-4, 2-2 MIAA) split two games with the Gorillas on Saturday after winning the series opener on Friday.
Pitt State (3-4, 2-2 MIAA) led 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth in Sunday before FHSU's Gabe Cook scored on a wild pitch. Each team added a run in the sixth and eighth innings -- including a solo home run by FHSU's Kevin Czarnecki in the eighth -- to give the Gorillas' a 5-3 advantage heading into the ninth inning.
Pitt State put the game away in the final frame with a two-run home run by Kyle Dickens.
Cort Lesmeister took the win on the mound for Pitt State, allowing two runs on five hits through six innings. Tiger pitcher Nathan Zimmerman took the loss, giving up three runs on five hits in 4.1 innings.
The Tigers will begin a four-game road series with Missouri Southern starting Friday afternoon.
