Tiger baseball rallies for series split

The Fort Hays State University baseball team continued to play better baseball with a 6-3 victory in the series finale against Emporia State University on Sunday at Larks Park.
FHSU had lost nine straight MIAA conference contests, but is 6-6 with three splits in its last three series. Fort Hays improved to 9-18, 8-16 MIAA, while Emporia State moved to 18-11, 14-10 MIAA.
Starter Joe Mapes (1-3) worked five innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits with one strikeout against four walks.
Nathan Briar delivered three innings of scoreless relief and Gabe Cook worked around a ninth inning jam for his second save. FHSU had single runs in the first four innings, then scored two runs in the seventh.
Fort Hays hit four doubles, including two by Kevin Czarnecki, Casey Sedbrook tripled and Austin Unrein hit his second homer of the season.
