Tiger baseball picks up first win

LAREDO, Texas -- The Fort Hays State University baseball team collected its first win of the season with a 10-8 victory against Texas A&M-International on Sunday. The Tigers moved to 1-2, while International dropped to 5-5.
FHSU took a 6-0 lead entering the bottom of the second, Cooper Langley homered and Horace Johnson and Jordan Miller each added doubles.
Starter Tyler Patty worked 4.1 innings and allowed 12 hits and five runs (three earned). Nathan Zimmerman relieved and was eventually charged with three runs in one inning. A&M took an 8-7 lead. Nick Hammeke eventually worked 1.2 scoreless innings and earned the victory.
Fort Hays scored three runs in the eighth for a 10-8 lead. Clayton Garland had a sacrifice fly, Horace Johnson had a two-out RBI double and Gabe Cook added a single. Nathan Briar collected a single.
FHSU will play host to Pittsburg State University in a four-game series starting Friday at Larks Park.
