Tiger baseball picked ninth in MIAA

The Fort Hays State University baseball team was picked to finish ninth in the MIAA poll, relased Thursday.

Fort Hays is coming of a 23-22 season and a berth in the MIAA postseason conference tournament from 2013.

The Tigers return three starters with all-MIAA honors in Horace Johnson, Clayton Garland, and Jordan Miller. Johnson was all-MIAA first-team as a designated hitter, and also earned all-region honors. Garland and Miller were honorable-mention MIAA members.

Johnson was also named a preseason All-American by the NCBWA, released Thursday. He was named to the preseason second team as a DH.

The Tigers begin the 2014 season next week at Larks Park with a three-game stint against Upper Iowa. It begins with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Feb. 8.
