Tiger softball No. 8 in first region rankings

The Fort Hays State University softball team was No. 8 in the first set of Central Region rankings released Tuesday. The Tigers stand 26-17 and are looking for their second straight NCAA Division II tournament berth after hosting a regional last year.

Fort Hays is both 24-16 against Division II opponents and 24-16 versus in-region opponents. Minnesota State-Mankato, who FHSU defeated 11-3 earlier in the year, stands first in the region at 32-6 overall. Emporia State University is second, defending national champion University of Central Oklahoma is fourth and Missouri Western State University stands seventh.

The Tigers are 2-5 against the top seven in the region with wins against UCO and Mankato, a loss to UCO and two losses apiece against Emporia State and Missouri Western. FHSU is off this weekend.
