McPHERSON -- The Hays High School girls' soccer team fell on the road to an undermanned McPherson High School on Tuesday, losing 2-0. McPherson (5-7-1) was missing three starters because of injury, including its starting goalkeeper.
The Bullpups' first goal came in the game's ninth minute by Breckon Kaufman, the second goal by Zaida Chapman in the 51st minute in the second half.
The loss is the first for Hays High since losing to Newton, 1-0, at the McPherson Invitational on April 5, a stretch of nine wins and one tie. The Indians, now 10-3-1, will be back at it on Thursday when they host Dodge City High School at HHS Field. It will be the final Western Athletic Conference game for Hays High with the outright WAC title on the line. Hays High's final regular season game will be at home against Salina Central on May 15.
