HHS boys win at Buhler

BUHLER — The Hays High School boys’ track and field team won the Buhler Invitational on Friday with 98 points, well ahead of Garden City High School and Wichita Southeast, which tied for second with 73 points. The Hays High girls took fourth with 59 points, while the Garden City girls cruised to the meet win with 146 points.

On the boys’ side, Hays High took first place in both the 400-meter and 1,600-meter relays, with times of 43.45 seconds and 3 minutes, 31.65 seconds, respectively. Senior Jordan Windholz was the lone first-place finisher among individuals for the Indians, winning the triple jump with a distance of 43 feet, 10 inches.

Junior sprinter Alex Delton finished second in the 100-meter dash in 11.14 seconds, and third in the 200-meter dash in 22.68 seconds.

Junior Mattison Schlaefli took third in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles (16.35 seconds, javelin with a throw of 116-0, and 300-meter hurdles (48.57), while sophomore Haley George finished second in the high jump with a height of 5-2.

The girls’ 3,200-meter relay team also finished in third with a time of 10:18.10.

The Indians next varsity meet is May 2 at Hutchinson.
