Hernandez resigns as HHS soccer coach

Saul Hernandez, the head coach of the boys' and girls' soccer teams at Hays High School, resigned after accepting a physical education and assistant coach position at Liberal High School. His resignation was approved on Monday by the USD 489 Board of Education.
Hernandez, a Dodge City native who spent one season leading Hays High, was named the 2014 Western Athletic Conference girls' coach of the year after guiding the Indians to a 13-4-1 record, including an 8-0 mark in WAC play, and trip to the regional championship game.
In the fall, Hernandez led the boys' team to a 6-10 regular-season record.
Hernandez replaced Chris Michaelis, who coached Hays High for 17 years prior to stepping down last spring. Michaelis will take over as the Hays High athletic director/assistant principal on July 1 for departing AD Clint Albers.
