WICHITA -- The Thomas More Prep-Marian girls' soccer team tied with Class 6A Wichita North High School on Thursday, 2-2, in Wichita. The Monarchs got their first goal in the 36th minute from Bailey Hageman, which was quickly answered by North with a goal from Shekinah Flores in the 39th minute. The teams went to halftime tied 1-1.
Annaka Applequist gave TMP a 2-1 lead when she scored off a penalty kick in the 64th minute, only to have Dora Gallo score a minute later for the Redskins. The Monarchs dominated both overtime periods, holding North without a shot, but had to settle for the tie.
"The girls were exhausted ... but they did very well," TMP coach Darryl Wellbrock said. "The girls dominated the two overtime periods, keeping the ball on our half."
TMP finishes the regular season 6-2-2 after a 2-2 start to the season. The Monarchs went 2-2-2 against Class 5A and 6A teams this season. They now await the announcement of their Class 4-1A regional opponent, which will be determined at Saturday's seeding meeting.
