OSBORNE (HNS) -- Osborne High School's head football coach was reported to be in critical condition at a Wichita hospital after his motorcycle crashed early Sunday.

Stephen Tiernan, 44, of Osborne, was flown to a Wichita hospital following the 2:18 a.m. crash on Kansas Highway 181, 4 miles west of Tipton, Osborne Sheriff Curtis Minor said. A Wesley Medical Center spokeswoman said his condition was listed as critical Sunday afternoon.

Minor said Tiernan had been in Tipton for a family function and was westbound on the highway traveling back to Osborne when he apparently fell asleep while driving his 2003 Harley Davidson. Minor said alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Tiernan was not wearing a helmet, Minor said.

"He's our head football coach, so everybody's pulling for him," Minor said.
