Two killed, several injured in area accidents

An Ellis woman was killed Monday 8 miles west of Hays on Interstate 70.
Eric J. Nelson, 31, Ellis, was westbound on I-70 at approximately 7:35 p.m. when he lost control of his pickup due to icy conditions, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. The vehicle rolled 2.25 times in the median, landing on the passenger side.
Kirstin R. Nelson, 28, Ellis, was killed. Eric Nelson and two children, Chandra Nelson, 5, and Lucina Unrein, 8, were taken to Hays Medical Center. All were properly restrained, according to the KHP report.

GOODLAND -- A Kansas City, Kan., man was killed and a passenger was hurt when the 2003 Chevy Trailblazer they were in rolled on Interstate 70 at 8:50 a.m. Monday.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported the vehicle, driven by Carlos Esqueda, 21, was eastbound on I-70 3.5 miles west of the Kansas Highway 27 junction at Goodland when it struck an icy patch, entered the median and rolled, ejecting Esqueda. The vehicle came to rest on its wheels in the median.
Esqueda and a passenger, Pablo Flores, 22, Kansas City, were taken to Goodland Medical Center. Esqueda died as a result of his injuries.
The KHP reported Flores was wearing a seat belt, while Esqueda was not.

Two Kansas City-area people were hurt in an accident at 7:30 p.m. Monday just east of Hays.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2000 Nissan Altima driven by Umesh Darji, 22, Kansas City, Kan., was westbound on Interstate 70 3 miles east of Hays when it hit an icy patch, entered the median and rolled once. The vehicle came to rest in the eastbound lane on its driver's side.
Darji and two passengers -- Jabez Darji, 18, Overland Park, and Birkha Diswa, 16, Kansas City -- were transported to Hays Medical Center for treatment.
All three were wearing seat belts, the KHP reported.

VICTORIA -- An Olathe man was injured in an accident at 7:40 p.m. Monday east of Victoria.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2004 Chevy Blazer driven by Lawrence J. Hart Jr., 47, was westbound on Interstate 70 4 miles east of Victoria when Hart lost control and entered the median. The vehicle rolled and came to rest on its wheels in the eastbound passing lane.
Hart, who reportedly was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Hays Medical Center for treatment of injuries.
