CASA to host poverty workshop in Phillipsburg

CASA of the 17th Judicial District Inc. announced last week it will host a conference/training titled a Framework for Understanding Poverty by Ruby Payne.
The conference will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Huck Boyd Center in Phillipsburg and will be conducted by Smoky Hills Education Services. Lunch will be provided by Third Street Bakery in Phillipsburg.
The conference is based on the popular Poverty Workshop as designed and conducted by Ruby Payne, CEO of Aha, Process Inc. Payne has more than 30 years of staff development experience.
Framework for Understanding Poverty teaches the hidden rules of economic class and spreads the message that, despite the obstacles poverty can create in all types of interaction, there are specific strategies for overcoming them.
Framework for Understanding Poverty is open to anyone wishing to attend. Registration is $10 prior to Friday, which will include a training book, the conference and lunch. After Friday, cost is $20. Space is limited, and registrations are being taken on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Make checks payable to CASA and note Poverty Workshop in the memo space. The workshop partially is funded by grants from the Darwin and Lorene Cole Foundation and Kansas Mentors Foundation.
