Oktoberfest 'quiet for the most part'
By The Hays Daily News
The first night of Oktoberfest weekend, held in conjunction with homecoming for Fort Hays State University, was business as usual for the most part.
"It was pretty quiet," said Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler on Saturday morning. "We had an incident over on the 16th street, where we had a man with a gun. We were outside the house a couple hours. We got that sorted out, ended up not arresting anybody over that deal.
"For the most part, activities for Oktoberfest were pretty quiet."
Scheibler was hoping the cold weather would mean another quiet night Saturday.
"I'm hoping it's cold and snowing and the wind's blowing, and they all stay inside," he said.
The Hays Police Department will compile weekend activity reports and release arrest numbers Monday.
