Sept. 11 marks the 11th anniversary of a day that will live forever in the hearts of the American people. A day that in the past was riddled with sadness now stands as a reminder of the bravery of countless people across the nation and the bond that was formed throughout the world.

Fort Hays State University's Tigers in Service will honor those who lost their lives with respect and memories of that faithful day. Tigers in Service will have 297 flags scattered across the FHSU campus. These flags will represent the 2,977 men, women and children who died Sept. 11, 2001. We encourage those on campus that day to remember the victims with a moment of silence, a moment of prayer or any other symbol of respect near the flags at 9:59 a.m. and at 10:28 a.m. that day, those being the times when the South and North World Trade Center towers collapsed.

Tigers in Service also will host a service project from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 14. Those participating will help beautify FHSU with a campus cleanup. Trash bags, gloves and other cleaning materials will be provided by Tigers in Service as well as snacks for those participating.

To sign up for a spot in the campus cleanup, contact Arin Powers and Becca Kohl of Tigers in Service at (785) 628-5537 or service@fhsu.edu.
