Oktoberfest welcomes sponsor, family-friendly activities

The 40th annual Oktoberfest will be expanded -- and welcomes a corporate sponsor into the mix, as well. Festivities will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Frontier Park.

Fort Hays State University has partnered with the Ellis County Historical Society to provide a more family-friendly portion of what has become a boisterous downtown party over the years.

The original Oktoberfest will continue with beer, music, food and booths in Frontier Park, and the alcohol-free and more family-friendly Honor our Heritage venue, celebrating the history and traditions of Ellis County, will be added immediately north of the dike in Municipal Park.

In addition, Eagle Communications has signed on as the sole sponsor for Oktoberfest.

"With Eagle, we have the resources we needed to expand, and by having a single generous sponsor, it keeps the process simple," FHSU President Edward H. Hammond said.
