Jana's Campaign to kickoff fundraising effort in Hays
Special to The Hays Daily News
On Oct. 13, Jana's Campaign officially will kickoff its inaugural fundraising event. In recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Jana's Campaign will host the gala event "Empty Place at the Table" at the Robbins Center on the Fort Hays State University campus. Activities will include a dinner, auction and live music, all with the purpose of shining a spotlight on the issue of domestic violence. Special guest Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt also will provide brief remarks about the state's role in addressing the important issue.
In honor of the late Hays resident and KU law student Jana Mackey, family and friends have created Jana's Campaign Inc. with the single mission of reducing domestic and dating violence. Through education and prevention programming, Jana's Campaign works at the local, state and national level in reducing partner violence.
"This event is part of our larger effort to raise needed resources to build a strong, caring and impactful organization" said Curt Brungardt, Jana's Campaign president of Hays. "This financial capital will match the already rich resources of our talented volunteers."
The goal of the capital campaign is to raise $100,000 during the next year.
"Although we officially start the fundraising campaign this fall, substantial contributions have already been coming in from our close friends and supporters," said Kelley Parker, board member and capital campaign chairperson of Manitou Springs, Colo. "We are extremely pleased with the initial response. At this point, we are at nearly 70 percent of our goal."
Tickets to the gala are $50 and can be purchased by visiting www.janascampaign.org. Seating for the event is limited.
