O'Loughlin locked down Tuesday
O'Loughlin Elementary School was locked down Tuesday afternoon sometime between 2 and 2:30 p.m., said Richard Cain, USD 489 deputy superintendent.
The lockdown came as the result of a reported external threat to school safety, according to a notification sent to parents.
The letter was signed by O'Loughlin principal Nancy Harman.
"No children were threatened," Cain said.
Cain didn't offer further details, but said the Hays Police Department's school resource officer responded.
Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler said the school received a call that concerned them, and they acted on the side of caution.
"There was never a direct threat," he said.
"The lockdown was released when law enforcement determined the threat was contained separate from the school," according to the letter.
Children were released at the regular dismissal time.
