Company helps VFW with exterior improvements

As they travel from town to town, the employees of L.E. Myers Co. like to give back to the community.
Now working in the Hays area, the company has helped Hays VFW Post No. 9076. The company dug a pair of post holes at the VFW Hall, 2106 Vine, last week. The VFW is replacing the flag pole out front and adding a flag pole by the back parking lot.
"Basically, they asked us if we had equipment to dig a hole for them," said Tom Hum, spokesman for L.E. Myers. "So we volunteered our equipment and our guys to help them out."
Mark Rupp, volunteer manager at the VFW, said they are appreciative of L.E. Myers' help.
"Otherwise, we would have had to hire somebody to do it," he said.
L.E. Myers dug a hole 6 feet deep and 3 feet wide for the new, 40-foot flag pole in the front, which will be installed later this month. The company also dug a hole the same size near the entrance to the hall in back for another flag pole.
The VFW also will have some landscaping done out front, replacing the grass with rocks.
"It's definitely going to be an improvement," Rupp said.
L.E. Myers is building an overhead transmission line from Burdett to the Nebraska border. The company started working on the project in October 2010 in Burdett. While based there, the company made a donation to the town's fire department.
"We like to donate back to the town in some way -- something we look to do to have good relations with the towns we go through," Hum said.
