Downtown event keeps growing





This year's Wines & Steins event will feature 11 stops in the Chestnut Street District in downtown Hays.

Saturday's event is a night full of socializing, sampling beer and wine, entertainment, and more.

"This is the third year we have done it," said Traci Konrade, executive director of Downtown Hays Development Corp. "It has significantly grown in size. We have sold more (reservations) this year than we have in the past."

The event is only available to 200 people who reserve a spot.

The reservation cost per person is $50.

The night will begin with check-in at 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Emprise Bank parking lot, 1200 Main.

Konrade said the reservation holders will receive a commemorative wine glass or beer stein after checking in.

Following the check-in, the downtown stroll through the Chestnut Street District will begin. The event concludes with a celebration and auction from 9 to 11 p.m.

Konrade said there will be a live and silent auction.

The silent auction will include items valued at $50 to $250.

Konrade said that includes gift baskets, gift cards and similar items.

The live auction will feature goods valued from $250 and above and will include donated shopping, sports and dinner packages.

Konrade said various local businesses donated the items and packages.

The event also will feature a $1,000 cash giveaway. To enter the giveaway, tickets must be purchased. Konrade said each ticket costs $50, but the winner does not have to be present for the drawing Saturday.

The proceeds of the event benefit the Downtown Hays Development Corp.

The event is open to those 21 and older.

Konrade also added if there are any reservations available the night of the event, they will be available for purchase at the Emprise Bank parking lot.
