Northwest Kansas facing blizzard warning
12/19/2012
The threat of howling winds and a bit of snow has prompted the National Weather Service to put most of northwest Kansas in a blizzard warning for today.
Northerly winds blowing at 35 to 45 mph -- with gusts of 55 to 60 mph -- are expected to usher in the snow.
In the Hays area, the forecast is for 1 to 3 inches of snow.
But that will be enough to create white-out conditions, making travel of any kind treacherous.
Areas north of Interstate 70 could receive as much as 3 to 6 inches.
The snow is expected to end by midnight, but breezy conditions still are forecast for Thursday.
