City of Hays unveils new text-, email-notification system for residents
To help keep residents in the loop regarding city of Hays notifications, a new Web-based system recently has been developed.
Announced Tuesday by Chad Ruder, city of Hays information technology coordinator, Nixle Connect allows the city to communicate with residents via text or SMS and email.
"There have been situations such as refuse changes in schedule in the past, road closures, things of that nature citizens may or may not hear about," Ruder said at a city press briefing. "This will give citizens the opportunity to opt in to receive texts and/or email notifications letting them know exactly what we alert the press on."
The notification system, launched Tuesday, is hoped by city staff to provide an "even playing field" for keeping all residents informed regarding alterations in refuse schedules, traffic advisories, posting of city commission agenda packages and will be the primary communication tool for distribution of the city's information.
The option to sign up for email and text alerts is available online at haysusa.com, by clicking on "notify me." For text message users, a keyword login is available by texting 888777 and entering the keyword "hays."
Past notifications also are available online.
"We're very excited about this," Ruder said of the text alerts. "We hope our citizens and press will be made aware of announcements in a timely manner and in a form that's easy to obtain."
