Larks Park is the home of the Fort Hays State University baseball team. The park is owned by the city of Hays but operated by the FHSU athletic department. The athletic department has a ten-year lease on the property.
Larks Park was built in 1940 as part of a Works Program Administration project. The park is the oldest park within the state of Kansas.
Larks Park is located at fourth and main. The park features a limestone frame with restroom, concession facilities and seating for 1,200 Tiger fans, although a record 1,550 turned out on April 11, 2003 to watch the Tigers defeat Southern Colorado 5-4. The restrooms, located under the stadium as you enter the front gate were refurbished during the 2000 season. The park has seen several improvements over the past few years.
New lights were installed in March of 2000 which allows the Tigers to play additional night games. The grass infield playing surface was just replaced during the summer of 2003. The artificial infield was necessary due to the numerous games that are played in the park each year. The artificial turf is the same surface that was recently installed at Lewis Field Stadium. Bluegrass sod was laid in the infield just alongside the turf. The outfield has been leveled and reseeded.
Park dimensions are 322 down the left field line and 319 to right, 349 in the power alleys and 405 to center field. An eight foot fence surrounds the park. The center field portion of the fence contains a green hitters background bearing the National Collegiate Athletic Association logos. The fence outside the hitting area contains billboards of Tiger supporters.
