Funeral for Kan. sheriff's deputy set for Thursday

OTTAWA, Kan. (AP) -- A Franklin County sheriff's deputy who died in a traffic accident while on duty will be buried in Ottawa on Friday.
Franklin County Sheriff's Deputy Samuel Smith died last Friday when he lost control of his patrol vehicle as he was responding to a domestic disturbance call near Pomona.
The 22-year-old Smith began working for the Franklin County Sheriff's Office last November. He graduated in March from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center.
WIBW-TV reports that his funeral is scheduled for Friday morning at the Ottawa University Chapel. Smith will be buried at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
