A Dodge City gang member formerly known as "Dracula" pleaded guilty on Halloween to attempting to kill a rival gang member.
According to a news release from Kansas U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom, Jesus Sanchez, a member of the Norteno-affiliated Diablos Viejos street gang, pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of conspiracy to commit acts of racketeering. As part of his plea, 23-year-old Sanchez admitted that in March of 2011, he attempted to shoot and kill a member of the rival Sureno gang. He also admitted in his plea, the release states, that he and other gang members robbed a victim and knifepoint in July 2008.
Sanchez is one of the 23 Norteno gang members indicted in May 2012. Three are still awaiting trial and 20 have so far pleaded guilty or have been found guilty.
This is the second time a federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act indictment was filed in Kansas.
Sanchez is facing a maximum of 20 years in federal prison for the charge and a fine up to $250,000. Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 13, 2014.
