TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- Secretary of State Kris Kobach (KOH'-bahk) is expected to discuss the Kansas Legislature's ongoing stalemate over political redistricting before lawmakers reconvene to wrap up business for the year.

Kobach has scheduled a Monday morning news conference to discuss the end of this year's 90-day legislative session. Lawmakers return Wednesday from their annual spring break, and their wrap-up could continue through early May.

Legislators must redraw state House, state Senate and congressional districts to account for changes in how the state's population has shifted over the past decade. But no proposal has passed both chambers.

Kobach, the state's chief elections official, already has warned that if redistricting issues aren't settled quickly enough, the state will have to push back its June 1 candidate filing deadline.
