KINGMAN, Kan. (AP) -- The superintendent of Kingman schools has resigned.

Superintendent Scott Carter had been on leave since being arrested for allegedly driving under the influence on Dec. 13.

Board of Education president Jon Wollen says Carter resigned on Monday, citing personal reasons.

Carter is scheduled to have a diversion hearing April 8 on a several misdemeanor charges stemming from a hit-and-run accident. In addition to DUI, Carter is charged with failure to report an accident and improper driving on a roadway.

Wollen said that the school board has hired the Kansas Association of School Boards to help conduct a search for a new superintendent.
