Man dies after being struck by train in Emporia

EMPORIA, Kan. (AP) -- Fire officials say a man died after being hit by a train in downtown Emporia.

Emporia Fire Department Battalion Chief Rich Gould says rescue units were called to the scene Wednesday night and found a man under the train engine.

The man was extricated and taken to Newman Regional Health, where he died. His name has not been released.

KVOE reports (http://bit.ly/GQsFSd ) a bicycle was found nearby but police have not confirmed whether it was involved in the accident.
