SHAWNEE, Kan. (AP) -- A northeast Kansas man who was discovered alive three weeks after he disappeared is recovering in a hospital as questions swirl over what happened to him.

Police say 58-year-old Larry Schnackenberg was found Wednesday afternoon on a trail in Shawnee Mission Park -- the same park where his empty vehicle was found on July 8.

Authorities say he was dehydrated and disoriented when he was found. He was hospitalized in good condition.

Park officer, Rick Reynolds has known the Schnackenberg family for years. He says when he saw him, Schnackenberg became emotional and immediately asked about his family.

Authorities believe the Hallmark Cards retiree stayed in a shack in the sprawling park during the time he was missing.
