Rains improve conditions for young corn and soybean crops

(MCT) Last week's rain improved soil conditions for the emergence of recently planted corn and soybeans, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Ratings that measure the supply of topsoil moisture showed that statewide, 29 percent was very short, 31 percent was short, 39 percent was adequate, and 1 percent was surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 39 percent very short, 36 percent short and 25 percent adequate.

Corn conditions rated 2 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 50 percent fair, 37 percent good, and 4 percent excellent. Soybean conditions rated 1 percent very poor, 2 percent poor, 49 percent fair, 44 percent good, and 4 percent excellent.
